New York. Magnus Hellberg didn’t play much hockey last year, but he wasn’t at all noticeable in his debut of tonight’s season with Ottawa.
The 31-year-old fired 29 shots against the hot Dallas side and led his team to their fourth straight win.
“Winning is a lot of fun,” he says with a grin after winning 4-2.
After five years in the KHL he returned Magnus Helberg At the end of last season to North America – where he previously tried his luck between 2012 and 2017, he had to make four NHL games, for the Nashville and New York Rangers respectively.
He played one game with Detroit last spring and then signed the Seattle Kraken, but Ottawa signed him concessions in the fall and tonight, in the absence of injured compatriot Anton Forsberg, had to debut.
Rusty ring?
not at all. Magnus was responsible for an excellent effort, stopping 29 rounds, thus helping the Senators to their fourth straight win.
He was fantastic and gave us a chance to win and he praised coach DJ Smith.
Magnus was also convinced himself.
– I’ve been waiting for this for a few weeks, so it was nice to finally be part of some action and the win is of course very fun, smiles when he meets the media afterwards.
I have the ambition to play at the highest level possible and feel that I can assert myself in this league. I am more experienced and mature than I was during my first stay in North America. So I’m glad I got this opportunity now.
