HC Gutenberg to withdraw from SDHL mid-season

Gothenburg club has informed HC SDHL that it wants to withdraw from the league.

The team cannot complete the season in the top of the Swedish women’s hockey series.

– After struggling for some time to save the situation, we came to the conclusion that we must withdraw to avoid bankruptcy, says acting chief Jan Melgren.

A complaint on this matter has been received by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation.

– It’s sad, of course, that one of the teams in SDHL couldn’t complete the series. The most important thing is that the decision is made in time before it goes too far and does not affect the efforts of youth and integration, as it is important for the future of women’s hockey. The consequences of that will be set up at the Elite Women’s Committee, says SDHL Director of Sports Oskar Alsenfeldt.

Officially, the required exit from the series will be a matter for the competition committee of the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation.

The Swedish Ice Hockey Federation is now tasking the Elite Women’s Committee with preparing the pro forma issues that arise around the league’s regulations in relation to Gothenburg HCExit request. We regret today’s announcement and are now working closely with SDHL to find the best possible solution for the series and for the players, says Hockey Federation General Secretary Johann Stark.

The club wants to avoid bankruptcy, which means all activities, including children’s, youth and parahockey, will cease.
