Purée Salming was celebrated during SHL games on Saturday

The crowd stood, clapped and shouted his name.

Pictures of Boreh-Salming were shown on a jumbotron.

The icon was celebrated on the squares of the SHL.

The entire hockey world was touched by Porgy Salming sleeping after a period of illness.

The icon opened the door for Europeans to cross over to North America and play in the NHL. He did it himself for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He’s done a lot for the community in Toronto. My dad loved Porgy’s way of playing hockey. He always talked about how hard Börje was playing and working, says Cameron Preece of Toronto-born Oscarshamn in C More.

Porgy Salming celebrated in the squares

Previously, the SHL planned to honor Börje Salming during Round 21 on Saturday – the number he wore in Toronto.

And when the squares were filled with people, there were great spectacles.

Before the puck was dropped between Oskarshamn and Timra, the audience stood up and applauded. The players line up on the blue lines of the ice, hold their helmets in their hands and hit the pucks on the ice.

Nicknamed Porgy Salming

In Scandinavia, they waited until the first power-break in the match before all eyes were turned on the jumbotron. Because there, like a pre-match jumbotron in Oskarshamn, pictures of Börje Salming were shown.

The audience in Gothenburg shouted “Börje” while giving him a standing ovation.

A sign reading “Rest in Peace” also appeared in the squares.

Donate money for the goals

The SHL, SDHL and Hockeyallsvenskan have jointly decided to donate SEK 1,000 per goal in tournaments over the weekend to the Börje Salming ALS Foundation.

Four SHL games start at 6 p.m. Even in those arenas, salming purées are expected to be celebrated.
