Joachim Wagerfall is fired.
Djurgården announced that former national team captain Johan Garbenlöf will take over the team.
– After several discussions, we came to this decision, says sports director KG Stoppel in a press release.
The start of allsvenskan hockey has not been a winning streak for Djurgården, who is third in the series and has 13 points ahead of league leader Modo.
Now the club is acting and sacking coach Joachim Wagerfall.

We think this is a necessary change, because we haven’t progressed far enough in the processes around how we want to play and how we should behave. With a number of months left until we have to perform at our best, we need to give ourselves time to find our way around, sports director KG Stoppel tells Djurgården’s website.
– This kind of decision is always boring and should always be seen as a kind of failure. “Jocke” is a very good person and leader, but he is mainly responsible for everything, because we can say that we did not achieve the desired results.
Garpenlöv replaces Fagervall
KG Stoppel also explains why Johan Garpenlöv was brought in as a substitute.
– We get a good captain with a strong anchor Djurgaard. Johan knows how things are in the association. He’s also worked with Markus Ragnarsson (assistant coach) before, and the two know each other well, which is an advantage, he says.
Johan Garbenlöf became the captain of the national team in the fall of 2019 and led Tre Kronor to this year’s World Cup. His contract with Djurgården is written during the current season.
