Kylian Mbappe led France to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Kylian Mbappe dumped Poland in the historic round of 16 – Olivier Giroud

France flexes its muscles.

The world champions advanced to the quarter-finals after two goals from Kylian Mbappe.

– Incomparable, says Hasse Backe on TV4.

After a weaker performance and a surprising loss to Tunisia in their final group stage match, France have shown they are a force to be reckoned with at the World Cup.

The Round of 16 against Poland ended up being a relatively uneventful event as star strikers Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe stole the show.

Jerrod Historical

Giroud opened the scoring just before the end of the first half after a wonderful pass from Mbappe, and the goal made Giroud historically as the best scorer for the French national team of all time.

It was his 52nd goal at “Les Bleus” and so he passed Thierry Henry and takes over the record.

Two goals for Mbappe

With a quarter of an hour remaining, the man who would likely take over the record in the future – Kylian Mbappe – stepped up and made it 2-0 with a genuine horse strike at the end that smashed through the roof of the net.

– like no other, says expert Hasse Backe of the shot.

In extra time, Mbappe made it 3-0 with another class finish. It was the 23-year-old’s fifth goal in this World Cup and ninth World Cup goal overall in his young career.

“It’s something very special,” Buck says.

The match ended 3-1 after a late consolation penalty goal by Robert Lewandowski. He burned the penalty first, but it had to be converted after the French players entered the penalty area too early.
