Kylian Mbappe’s first World Cup interview: ‘He was fined’

He’s the biggest star in WC, but he hasn’t said a word in the media yet.

After the display against Poland, Kylian Mbappe broke his silence – revealing that France had been fined for refusing to speak.

– I’ll pay it, he says.

France entered the World Cup as one of the heavy favorites for the gold medal and Kylian Mbappe was the hottest star.

Now, according to plan, they are in the quarterfinals, and 23-year-old Mbappe has achieved a stunning success with five goals in four matches.

But despite him being the main focal point of the entire tournament, no one heard or read a single word from Mbappe during the World Cup.

Namely, the star categorically refused all interviews and walked through mixed territory without speaking.

Even when he was named Man of the Match after the 2-1 win over Denmark, he didn’t allow himself an interview – even though that is a requirement of FIFA and its sponsors.

I got fine

Now Mbappe has broken the silence.

After a 3-1 victory over Poland in the round of 16, where he scored two goals, he appeared in his first World Cup match.

He then revealed, among other things, that the French Football Federation had been fined when Mbappe refused to speak after his Man of the Match award.

– The association was fined, but I will take care of it. According to the RMC, the association does not have to pay it.

– I know that many have asked why I don’t stay with the journalists after the matches, but there is nothing personal against them. It’s just that I focus 100% on the task and after that I don’t want to waste energy on anything else.

World Cup obsession

More generally, about the start of the World Cup and the chance to move on, Mbappe says:

– I’m obsessed with the World Cup, it’s my dream tournament and I’m lucky to be able to play. I planned this whole season, to be ready both physically and mentally. It’s going well so far, but we still have a long way to go towards the ultimate goal, which is to win, says Kylian Mbappe.
