Journalist Grant Wahl dies in Qatar

Famed sports journalist Grant Wahl has died in Qatar.

He collapsed in the stands during the quarter-final between Argentina and the Netherlands.

He was taken to the hospital but his life could not be saved.

His brother Eric Wahl announced on Twitter that journalist Grant Wahl, 48, who wrote for CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated, died in Qatar during the quarter-final between Argentina and the Netherlands.

—He collapsed in the stadium, was given CPR and was taken in an Uber to the hospital and died, Eric Wahl said according to the New York Post.

News of his death comes just weeks after he was brought to attention after he was stopped and detained for half an hour prior to the USA v Wales match for wearing a rainbow shirt. He wore the shirt in honor of his brother.

– I’m gay. I’m the reason he wore the shirt during the World Cup,” Eric Wahl says in a video on Twitter.

Health problems at the beginning of the week

At the start of the week, he wrote about health problems after working long hours during the World Cup, according to the Associated Press news agency.

“My body has finally broken down. Three weeks of too little sleep, too much stress and too much work can do that to you. What had been cold for the past 10 days turned out to be something much more serious on the night of the USA-Netherlands game. My chest felt like it was taking on a whole new level of pressure.” And discomfort.I didn’t have Covid (I regularly test myself here), but I went to a clinic in the media center today and they said I probably had bronchitis. They gave me a course of antibiotics and strong cough medicine.I actually feel better after a few hours. But still: no bueno”
