Lulea driving over Malmö at the SHL crisis meeting
After a celebration in which the jersey went up to the ceiling, Jan Sandström received a gift.
Luleåbacken Oscar Engsund stuffed a box into the chest pocket of one of the club’s legends.
Then, a faltering Lulea went out and cruised over Malmö in the bottom meet.
He played 17 seasons in Luleå, played 895 matches for the club and is still the player with the most games played in the SHL.
Today, Jan Sandström got the jersey on the roof at Coop Norrbotten Arena ahead of Luleå’s home game against Malmö, a crisis encounter between two unskilled teams.
“forever grateful”
Once the shirt was hung there, the club legend said a few words to the crowd in his place.
Thank you Luleå Hockey for allowing me to be part of this association for so many years of my life and career, said Sandström before thanking his family and the people in and around the club.
Then I turned to the short side where the fans were standing.
– Thank you LuleåFans for everything. I am forever grateful for all the love I have received over the years and continue to receive. Thank you for everything you have done and everything you do. I love you.

Before the ceremony ended, Jan Sandström made a symbolic drawing with Oskar Engsund and Emil Selfegaard. The first brought a small gift with him.
Before Luleåbacken left the ice, he put a tall can of beer in the inner pocket of a happy Sandström.
Then the home team went out and headed over Skåne. After two periods, Lulea led 4-0 and is on its way to snapping the six-game losing streak. –
