Lars Christer Olsson wants to become the new president of the Swedish Football Association

Lars Krister Olsson, former UEFA general secretary, wants to take over as president of the Swedish Football Association.

This brings the number of candidates to seven.

Previously, Caroline Waldheim, Berger Johnson, Anika Grylls, Jeans T. Anderson, Tommy Anderson, and Frederick Reinfeldt had also run for the position.

Now, Lars Christer Olsson has also registered an interest in replacing current boss Carl-Erik Nilsson, who is leaving this spring.

Olsson has been nominated by the Västerbotten Football Association, the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) wrote on their website.

Heavy football flyers are nothing new for Lars Christer Olsson. The 72-year-old has been active in football for just over 30 years and was, among other things, UEFA’s general secretary between 2003 and 2007. He then served as the head of Elite Fotoll, the Swedish elite club interest organisation. (Sef) for nine years before stepping down last year. In the same year, he left the post of president of the European Leagues Organization, which represents domestic leagues in Europe.

“I’m not likely to sit in a rocking chair yet, but I haven’t made any concrete plans,” Lars Krister Olsson said in a press release when announcing he was leaving Saif.

Most recently, Olsson has worked for, among others, the National Sports Federation (RF), where during the year he led an investigation into threat images against Swedish league organisations.

The nomination period ends on January 15th. The new president will then be elected at the union meeting on March 25.
