Per-Mathias Högmo is about to extend with BK Häcken

Gothenburg. BK Häcken is about to extend with its golden coach Per Matthias Hugmo.

– He says we have a good dialogue.

BK Häcken won his first SM gold last fall. The team did so with a crew led by Per-Mathias Högmo.

The Norwegian returned to Gothenburg on Monday night and enjoyed his first training session of the season in front of delighted fans.

His contract expires after 2023 and last fall there was speculation as to whether Per Matthias Högmo would choose to leave BK Häcken as there was interest from other clubs. Something he himself confirmed after the season.

There were many offers during the season and from different clubs. From around the world, Norwegian Högmo told Verdens Gang.

But in the search for gold, the coach chose to put aside all thoughts of changing clubs. He hasn’t dropped any temptations after the Christmas break, but the focus is now on staying at BK Häcken.

The club management and the coach are also discussing the extension.

– Yes we did. I don’t want to speculate when we’ll be ready, but we’re aiming for a stretch, says sporting director Martin Ericsson.

Per Matthias Hugmo:

– I’m very excited to move this forward. My focus is on the dialogue to be here and take another step forward. We take one year at a time, but we have a dialogue about the future. It’s a good dialogue…, he says.

How do you feel about starting after the success this fall?

– It was good to start. It was a very motivated team of players and leadership group that came together. We were very excited about what we did last year and we will take that with us next season. Then we start to find areas where we can improve, says the coach.
