Nabil Bahoy claims coach Andreas Bernström wanted to keep him at AIK.
Sporting director Manuel Lindberg believes Bernan was involved in the process that led to El Bahi being forced to leave the club.
– We, the Sports Council, are the ones who made up the team. Hence the coach’s job is to select a starting eleven, says Lindberg.
And on Tuesday, AIK started pre-season and a few hours before the fans’ classic party at Skytteholm, the club made an announcement about Nabil Bhoy.
The 32-year-old striker was not handed a new contract and flared up against the club shortly after the announcement.
“I’m very disappointed with the way this was handled, I’ve always wanted to stay at AIK, I have a big heart for AIK and love the club,” Bhui wrote on Instagram.
Explains AIK’s decision
AIK Director/CEO and Acting Sporting Director Manuel Lindberg made only brief comment on Bhuy’s sacking on the club’s website, but for Sportbladet, he explained the club’s decision.
– Every fall/winter we sit down and do a team assessment. This is done within the Technical Council, along with the coaches and others. We look at the team as a whole, but also at the individual players in terms of athletic performance, susceptibility to injury, age, etc. Lindbergh says and continues:
– Then the decision was made not to offer Nabil a new contract, but we will look for another character and the type of player in this position. The decision depends entirely on the sport. It is not me personally who took it but a group of people.
The group of people is AIK’s technical council, says Lindberg.
– I, the scout, Peter Weinberg, the technical director, the board members, but the coaches are also present at certain times, says Manuel Lindberg.
Lindberg responds to criticism
What do you think of Al-Bahouy’s criticisms on Instagram?
– I respect his opinions. I have great respect for Nabil Bhuwi and what he has done at AIK over the years. But now we’re standing here, his contract is up and we’ve opted to go another way with AIK in 2023. Like I said, it was totally sport based.

– This is his (Al-Bahawi) opinion. Everyone participated in the process and agreed on it. Manuel Lindberg says: Sometimes you have slightly different opinions about things.
So isn’t it true that Brennan wanted to keep the lobby?
– So, it was we, the Sports Council, who formed the team. Hence it is the coach’s job to select the starting eleven based on that lineup.
Will you find out if Brannan wanted to keep her buffalo or not?
– It was part of the dialogue. Nothing strange at all.
“No relation to my son”
The social media backlash was strong after a top fan favorite was fired from AIK. Words like “disgraceful” were used to describe the fact that El Bahi did not receive approval from the club.
– It should be up to them. Personally, I have nothing to do with a “prophet”. I have had a dialogue with his agents and explained our view on the matter. That’s how it goes in the world of football. You have a dialogue with the players’ agents and you explain the situation, says Manuel Lindberg.
What a tough decision to make?
– common sense. This is always the case, especially when it comes to players who have been in the club for a long time.
