Union captain Jan Anderson will undergo knee surgery

Jan Andersson limped badly during the national team camp.

And soon he can not postpone the inevitable.

– I will have to operate on my knee, sighs the captain of the national team.

Difficult with stairs. Forced gait. chronic pain

Janne Andersson could be plenty happy during the January Tour – but not with his health. An old knee injury aggravated and had a definite crippling effect on the national team captain.

– Believe it or not, but I’m an old footballer and like many of my generation I have knee problems. It is the meniscus of the knee. They were on the knee and actually polished it ten years ago, and then again, but now it’s bad again, says Anderson, who has had problems for a long time.

“The cartilage is completely worn out.”

The guild leader is careful not to complain, and stresses that there are people with much worse problems, but he also does not hide that the situation is difficult.

– The cartilage has completely disappeared. It’s just bone to bone.

Now there is a high probability of a new knee surgery.

– I already had surgery last year. But then I was able to do more exercise and lose a few kilos. It seemed as if the pressure on my knee had decreased. Now it is worse. I got the flu last winter and then it took hold in my joints. I’m going to try and work it out, but it’s not at all impossible for me to seek sponsorship for surgery. Eventually I will have to.

“It’s no fun to limp.”

Can you describe the pain?

– It’s like a toothache in my knee. burning pain It kind of stings in certain situations. like a knife. Every step is painful. But I actually got a little better in the last days of camp, I was able to bike a little bit. I chewed tablets and managed to get a little exercise. But sooner or later I have to have an operation.

Anderson is an active person. He walked for a long time from the residence in Lidingö to the association’s office in Solna.

How do you feel when you are not able to move the same way anymore?

– It’s really very sad. I can cycle for periods, but I can’t walk longer distances. Yes, I have to do something about it if it doesn’t get better. You get in a bad mood when you can’t exercise or something. At the same time, there are many who have it worse than me. But of course it gets really frustrating when you can’t move. Walking with a limp isn’t fun, especially for a soccer coach who wants to be active on the training field.

Sweden won two straight matches, against Finland and Iceland, in the January tour of Portugal.
