Fredrik Reinfeldt may become the new president of the Swedish Football Association

Eight names became three candidates.

The Swedish Football Association’s election committee proposes that one of Helen Barneko, Fredrik Reinfeldt or Lars Krister Olsson take over as the new chairman of the board after Karl-Erik Nilsson resigns.

After relatively weak interest, it gained momentum during the autumn and eight people were proposed by clubs and county associations to take over as the new head of the Swedish Football Association, perhaps the most powerful office in Swedish sport.

Now the selection committee of the Saudi Arabian Football Club (SvFF) announces that it has selected three candidates out of eight candidates, a business tycoon, a political heavyweight and a seasoned fox in the corridors of power in football:

* Helen Barnico, 58, former CEO of Telia Sweden and Microsoft Sweden. Nominated by the Skåne Football Association.

* Frederick ReinfeldtThe 57-year-old former prime minister and party leader of the moderates. He is known as a big supporter of Djurgården. Nominated by Brommapojkarna.

* Lars Christer Olsson, 72, former president of the Swedish Elite Football Association, SEF. Nominated by Västerbotten FF.

A new president will be elected in March

As the selection committee had concluded that these three were suitable candidates, national team manager Jens T. Andersson and Annika Grylls, president of the elite women’s soccer team, were selected from among the previous nominees.

The selection committee wrote that it had interviewed and checked the eligibility of all eight candidates and had also spoken with “key people in the football movement” when they made it to the three shortlists.

“The Election Commission considers, through a collective assessment, based on various points of view, that the leading candidates are best suited for the football movement to take a position on. These will be presented in the Cross-Team Candidate Presentation on January 24, with the aim of providing the Selection Committee with additional information for its further work. The call is separate for those eligible to vote. The time for presentation and questions is set at 45 minutes per candidate.”

A new SvFF president will be elected at the union meeting on March 25.
