BK Häcken loophole in the regulations – investigated by SvFF

BK Häcken FF in the women’s league, BK Häcken in the elite league.

Both in black and yellow striped shirts and black shorts.

But not the same link.

BK Häcken already had a women’s team, in Division 2, when in 2021 it took on Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC, who were in the women’s league.

Then they created the BK Häcken FF association as a solution.

The ‘original’ women’s team was now offered a place in the elite league following Bergdalen’s exit.

Next season there will be BK Häcken in both the women’s league and the elite league.

It’s not something the Swedish Football Association is very happy about.

“The model with two separate federations constitutes a circumvention of the Swedish Football Association’s competition regulations, leading to a series of questions relating to sporting integrity, the attractiveness of competitions to the public, and the distribution of funds to the federations,” Axel wrote. Fägerhall, Director of Competition Group at SvFF, in an email.

– If we break any rules, we will not allow it. “There are many other associations that have many teams in the series system, although we are in the unique position of having teams in the two biggest leagues on the women’s side,” says Malin Vahlin, deputy club manager at BK Hacken.

Can play in the same series

Axel Fägerhall announced that the matter is being investigated by the SvFF, and that it is being reviewed whether changes to the regulations are required to avoid having the same business in the top two divisions.

Malin Vahlin sees it as a positive.

– If the federation wants to review and develop the regulations, I suppose that Swedish football has been developed in the best way, and this, of course, is also in our interest, she said.

Since the two teams are legally separate associations, the terms of player transfers are the same as between other associations.

For the same reason, according to competition regulations, it will be possible for BK Häcken FF and BK Häcken to play in the same league.

“Unique in Swedish football”

But that’s not part of the plans, Malin Vahlin says.

– It’s a speculative scenario, but purely theoretically, the club does not aim to have two teams in the Women’s League. It is not relevant.

Because the goal of the national team is not to win an elite title, but rather to develop the player, Malin Vahlin points out.

– It makes us special in western Sweden, and the whole of Swedish football, as we can offer our players under the circumstances. In terms of training players, developing talent and being able to provide them with a good environment. Lyrics provides good conditions for further training of good football players.
