New York William Nylander was the big king in Toronto last night – again.
Scored two goals and assisted on two goals as the Maple Leafs downed the New York Islanders
– I try to improve all the time, so it was nice to get this reward, says Sweden’s top scorer after the 5-2 win.
Already last fall it was evident that the current season might be William Nylander’s best season yet, he made sure to be noticed as soon as he was on the ice – and now that can be considered certain.
He stepped up and made a difference all the time. Like in the second half against the New York Islanders last night, when he himself scored two goals and was responsible for two plays, including a very good one that freed compatriot Callie Jarencrook.
– We weren’t good in the first period, but we changed our approach to the second and fought a little more. That’s why we were able to take over the game,” says the 26-year-old star when he meets the media in the dressing room afterwards.
– For me… yeah, I try to get better all the time, that’s what I focus on every game, and it was nice to have such a reward tonight.
In all, “Lil-Nelette” scored 26 goals (the best of all Swedes) and 56 points. In doing so, Auston Matthews shares first place in the indoor scoring league – and first place in scoring with Mitch Marner.
That is why many in Toronto thought he should be allowed to join these gentlemen at the All Star Gala in South Florida the first weekend in February.
– It would have been fun, but we have two decent actors there, so nothing to worry me about, he smiles.
