The oldest goalscorer in the world is ready for a new club

He is best known as one of the oldest active football professionals in the world.

And he has no plans to stop playing.

Now, Kazuyoshi Miura, 55, has signed for a new club – in Portugal.

Japanese Kazuyoshi Miura, known as “Kongen” or “King Kazuo”, began playing football after discovering this sport during the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

In the Japanese national team, his score is 55 goals in 89 international matches. The striker stopped playing for the national team in 2000, but his club career lasted much longer.

In 2021, he signed with Yokohama FC in the J.League, but last season he was on loan to Suzuka Point Jetters in the local fourth division.

Moved to the Portuguese second division

Now, however, a new chapter awaits in Miura’s career of nearly 38 seasons in the professional circus.

The 55-year-old will go on loan to Oliverense in the Portuguese second division. The transfer was confirmed by Yokohama FC on Instagram.

The loan agreement runs through the summer.

– I will do everything so that people can see me playing my own game, even in new surroundings, Miura says in a statement.

Oldest goalscorer in the world

The move to Portugal will be his fifth adventure abroad. Previously, he managed to play professionally in Brazil, Italy, Croatia and Australia.

The veteran, who is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest scorer at the elite level (50 years and 14 days at the time), is also said to have received offers from several teams in the second and third J. League.
