Former Austrian national team player Volkan Kahraman was shot dead in the open street

The victim was former Austrian national team player Volkan Kahraman, 43, who was shot and killed by a 46-year-old acquaintance.

The suspected perpetrator later committed suicide.

The incident occurred at lunchtime on Wednesday in the Siemring district of Vienna.

According to the newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten, a fight broke out between two men inside a café, and then continued into the street, where it derailed.

Then a 46-year-old man drew a gun and shot the other man in the head – who succumbed to his injuries.

The suspected perpetrator committed suicide shortly thereafter.

Suspicious jealousy drama

The incident was witnessed by several people, and according to the APA news agency, the victim has been identified as former Austrian national team player Volkan Kahraman.

According to the Austrian police, the men knew each other and, after questioning the relatives, it is believed that the motive for the quarrel was a drama of jealousy, Express writes.

A bright future was predicted

Volkan Kahramann was one of the most famous figures in Austrian football, described in his youth as one of the country’s greatest talents.

When he was 17 years old, he made his debut with Feyenoord, which marked the beginning of an international career, which, among other things, traveled through Turkey’s Trabzonspor before returning to Austrian football.

In the domestic league, he represented several top teams such as Austria Wien, RB Salzburg and SV Pasching.

In October 2002, Kahraman made his debut for the Austrian national team in an international match against Switzerland. In total, there were three matches in the shirt of the national team for the midfielder.
