Then Rögle immediately started knocking.
Already less than twelve minutes later, Ängelholm’s side led their team against Malmö with a score of 3-0.
With only ten rounds remaining in the regular season, important points were at stake in the Scania derby between Malmö and Rogl. Malmö is fighting for a preserved SHL contract and Rögle to take a direct spot in the playoffs.
But what appeared in advance to be an equal match between two teams of equal form instead appears to be relatively untragic.
Rögle really took the lead after just under five minutes through a point from team king Adam Tambellini. And just three minutes later, Oscar Staal-Lerenas doubled the lead before Michael Kapla could set up the half-time score, 3-0.
When Malmö captain Fredrik Handemark met C. Moore’s microphone after the first period, he was unhappy with the team’s performance.
“They drive well.”
– This is not good. We’re not really on our toes. They are hotter in every way and win more duels. Händemark says they’re worth the drive.
Oscar Stahl-Lirenas, Rugel’s second top scorer, was even happier.
We take advantage of our chances and control a lot of the match. We’ve had long attacks, but at the same time we’re giving them some very clear chances. Rifalk really climbed here a few times and saved us, says Stål-Lyrenäs.
Rögle extended it into the third period
In the second period, I briefly looked that Malmö could respond when it was reduced to 1-3. But Rögle had an answer for everything in the evening and managed to get away further and dismiss Malmö’s threat. Ängelholm’s team won the derby 5-2.
The result means Rögle moves up to ninth in the hunt for qualifying places, while Malmö’s climb uphill gets steeper and steeper. With nine innings left to play, the team reaches ten points on safe ground.
