This summer, sports journalist Ida Bjornstad and NHL star Matthias Ekholm will become parents of three children.
For Sportbladet, they talk about happiness and a great challenge.
It was a bit of fun mixed with horror when we started thinking about trying again, says Ida Bjornstad.
TV4 profile and sports journalist Ida Bjornstad, 36, and NHL star Matthias Ekholm, 32, will become parents for the third time. On social media, Ida Björnstad shows off her growing belly and a photo from her ultrasound.
“When Mathias was on the plane to Edmonton two weeks ago, I had the chance to meet our third child. It was definitely the hardest pregnancy of the three, but still — I love the moments when I had the chance to lie down and feel the kicks and movements of my belly. We are so blessed. Our baby. Little! “
Sportbladet has been in touch with Ida Björnstad, who talks about luck.
– It feels great, of course. Every time you get pregnant and have a baby in your womb, you have to hold your arm. But physically it was the hardest pregnancy and I now realize how lucky I was over the previous two pregnancies. Then I felt pretty rude. He has a lot of nausea this time. But I really try to take advantage of the moments when I feel the kicks and the moves, and I’m grateful for it when I feel strong.
Expecting a third child
The couple already have a son William, 5, and a daughter Maja, 2, and Ida Bjornstad says their eldest son is well aware of what lies ahead.
He thinks it will be a lot of fun and we talk about it basically every day. However, we decided not to know if it was a boy or a girl. But he doesn’t know anything other than what it means to have a little sister and he’s on that streak because he’s worked so well with her.
Ida Björnstad also says that the pregnancy was planned.
We’ve always wanted to have three kids, but you can’t take it for granted. She preferred to be pregnant again and we have to remind ourselves of that. But it’s clearly a challenge to go third and it was some horror mixed with exhilaration when we started thinking about trying again. After all, I spend a lot of time alone with the kids.
Matthias Ekholm played his entire career in the National Hockey League in Nashville, Tennessee, but the move has now moved to Edmonton in Canada. The husband does his best to be a present father as much as he can, explains Ida Bjornstad.
Unfortunately, the downside of these professions is that they take a lot of time away from the family. But my husband really wants to be a caring, caring father to our kids. But it becomes a different relationship with the kids when you are away a lot and he has so little time, he really does devote himself wholeheartedly to his kids. It doesn’t matter how tired or exhausted he is.

Matthias Ekholm sent a tribute to Sportbladet.
“I am of course very happy and full of anticipation for our growing family. It is a wonderful and indescribable feeling to soon become a father of three children,” he writes, also commenting on the fact that the job takes up a significant portion of the time:
“It is, of course, a challenge to be a present parent with the lifestyle we lead, but I really want to have an important role in raising my children. Although I can’t be physically present as much as I would like to, I make sure to participate via FaceTime. Even me And kids we play hide-and-seek over video call.”
