With only minutes left in the game, Lulea running back Jenny Herekoski got a skateboard from one of Brenas’ players.
The match was canceled and Jenny Herikoski was taken to the hospital, where she was awaiting surgery.
The ambulance was not on site at Coop Norrbotten Stadium during the game, but had to be called there.
– I think it’s a bit shameful, actually. I freak out, because this kind of thing can happen, and we know it, says SVT Sport expert Maria Roth.
Usually there is no doctor on site
Ruth says she has found that there is always an ambulance on site during SHL games, but not SDHL games.
Most of the time, the former hockey player explains, there isn’t even a doctor on site at women’s matches.
— especially in the series finale too, where there’s a lot more intensity, it’s easier for something to happen. It’s a pity, it could have been really bad, Roth says.
Game Over
When Jenny Herekoski was taken off the ice, apparently fine, the final minutes of the game were played.
The right decision, according to Roth.
With the fact that she was fine and conscious, and that both teams were fine with her, I thought it was right to continue playing for three minutes.
