Simon Edvinson with his first NHL goal as Detroit fell against St. Louis

New York. The new Swedish big linebacker for the Detroit Red Wings introduced himself.

Simon Edvinson scored his first NHL goal in a home game against St. Louis last night.

– I would be happy about the goal tomorrow, and now I’m disappointed that we lost, says the 20-year-old rookie.

The fight between the Red Wings and St. Lewis was only going 38 seconds when Simon Edvinson’s childhood dream came true.

He flicked a shot from the top of the right penalty circle and the puck took such a convoluted trajectory into the Blues’ area that the referees initially thought Matt Love had headed it 1-0.

Close examination, however, revealed that the rubber did in fact go through an opponent’s defender.

So Simon – who spent most of his first season in North America in the AHL, but played three matches for the Wings – suddenly scored his first goal in the best league in the world.

– It might have been one of the ugliest goals in Detroit’s history, but of course it was fun to score, says the 20-year-old from Gothenburg when he meets the media afterwards.

– However, I will look forward to it more tomorrow, and now I am disappointed that we lost.

Because that’s what happened – although the Red Wings also managed a 2-0 lead after a minute and a half. The Blues turned around and eventually won 4-3.

– I also got two packages. It’s not good enough, says Simon.

However, coach Derek Lalonde is lenient.

– This is part of the development. Simon took another step tonight, doing good things in an offensive way and avoiding big mistakes. And he says I love that he managed to score that goal.

Lucas Raymond got an assist and so did Rosen’s plea for the Blues.
