New York. Gustav Nyquist now knows what it feels like to sign up with the Minnesota Wild.
He scored his first goal for the new club in a win over Chicago last night.
– Admittedly, it was empty, but those goals are important too, Jos tells Sportbladet after the 4-2 win.
Minnesota fans had to wait a while to learn about fourth and last Swedish General Manager Bill Gerin regarding the trade deadline, Gustav Nyquist injured his shoulder at the time and needed ongoing rehabilitation.
But now the Skåne veteran is in the thick of the fight once again. He made his debut in his new match jersey that day and in the Battle of the Night at the United Center in Chicago, scored his first goal as a Wildcats – into an empty net with just over a minute left.
– I feel a bit rusty after such a long absence, but it’s so much fun to be able to play hockey again, it’s nothing more to sit and watch, says Joss when we talk to him after the final whistle.
– Of course it was fun to score a goal too. Like I said, it was an empty net, but even those goals matter, heh.
Countryman Marcus Johansson scored twice again, and was also responsible for playing through a goal signed by Matt Boldy.
“The two have really good chemistry, it’s fun to see,” Nyquist continues.
Now we just have to make sure we start the games a little bit better. It was really bad the first two periods tonight. Luckily we have two more games to fix before the playoffs start.
