Even Linus O’Mark and Anton Lander get it wrong
Tre Kronor’s goal king from the Olympics, Lucas Wallmark, will not be playing in WC for Tre Kronor.
The reason is a combination of tepid interest from the association and outreach to Wallmark.
– I really wanted to play the World Cup, but I didn’t hear anything from the federation until two weeks after the end of the playoffs. By then, I had started slowing down my season, says Woolmark, who is now from Zurich, Switzerland.
Linus Omark and Anton Lander will also not be playing in WC.
Extensive work is currently underway to assemble a strong World Cup squad for new national team captain Sam Hallam.
It’s a challenge to put together a team with free and healthy European players and also solve insurance problems for NHL players with or without contracts.
Lukas Wollmark, 27, was a player awarded last season at Tre Kronor. He played both the Olympics and the 2022 World Cup and at the Olympics he was part of a production series with Pontus Holmberg and Fredrik Olofsson. Woolmark scored five goals in the tournament and came second in the league, behind Slovakian Djoraj Slavkowski, who scored seven goals.
He started thinking about the water cycle.
But Woolmark will not come to the Tampere restroom. He claims he did not refuse and gives his version of the selection process. He is critical of the fact that it took so long before he was asked about national team matches.
– I’d really like to play in the toilet. It’s always fun to wear the national team jersey and represent the national team. But I received an order two weeks after my last match, and hadn’t heard anything before that. Then I started forgetting to go to the bathroom and planning other things. When I got the question from Tre Kronor, there was no obvious WC announcement, but only pre-tournament practice matches. Then I felt like the time wasn’t right, Woolmark says.
The 28-year-old played 21 games for Tre Kronor last season and had 16 points, but that note was his leading scorer during the season.
Wallmark was also selected to the Beijer Hockey Games in February and noted for two caps and two goals.
Lander and Omark get it wrong
Anton Lander, Timra, was also prioritized by Tre Kronor. He was Tre Kronor’s second leading scorer at the 2022 China Olympic Games.
– We had a good chat after the season. But he said he had other players in front of me. I wish I could play in the restroom, says Anton Lander, 32.
Linus Omark, who recently became the champion of Switzerland, will also not play in the World Cup.
– I haven’t received an order, so no, there won’t be a toilet, he says.
To date, Sam Hallam has selected five World Cup players: Rasmus Sanden, Alexander Nylander, Lucas Raymond, Jacob Silverberg and Jonathan Berggren.
The Czech hockey lineup will be drawn on Sunday, and it will also be the embryo of a WC team that will be updated with the availability of NHL players from the Stanley Cup.
