Lucas Wallmark breaks his contract in Switzerland with ZSC Lions

Lukas Wollmark, 27, is leaving Swiss side ZSC Lions despite having two years left on his contract.

But the star center doesn’t look like it’s coming home to Sweden.

– I’d like to stay abroad, and I’m inclined to, too, he says.

Lukas Wollmark has scored 37 points in 50 games for the Swiss ZSC Lions from Zurich this season.

Now the 27-year-old has finished his contract, which ran for more than two more seasons. He became the team’s second leading scorer, but at the end of the season, his point production and ice time decreased.

– I incredibly enjoyed my time with the coaches we had before Christmas, says Lukas Wallmark, who now lives in Sweden.

In December, Rijkaard Grunborg and assistant coaches Johan Andersson and Petr Popović were fired. New coach Mark Crawford came in.

– When they had to go, it didn’t really work out with the new coaches after Christmas. It didn’t really suit me and the way I wanted to play, so I felt the best thing for me and the team was to break the contract.
