Alexander Dellert ends his career

AIK’s Alexander Dellert, 34, suffered a concussion in November 2021.

Now the defender declares that his career is over.

– It’s sad to have to leave hockey, he tells Sportbladet.

In November 2021, Alexander Dellert suffered a concussion after a fight with HV71 player Max Weinlund.

At the beginning of April, Sportbladet spoke to Deilert, who had not played hockey for 500 days. Then he talked about life after the concussion and how he saw the future of hockey.

– Obviously life-changing given that for long periods of time I wasn’t a person here at home, he said at the time.

– It is very difficult to say whether you are completely honest. I will probably make a final decision when my contract expires. There is very little time left and then I will probably have to make another decision on whether to continue or not.

“You will always be with me”

Now the decision has been made. On Twitter, Deilert says goodbye to the sport.

“I have now made one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I have decided to end my hockey career. The passion for hockey, all my great teammates and amazing fans will always be with me. I will miss hockey endlessly.” he is writing.

To Sportbladet, he explains his thoughts on the decision.

Of course there are mixed feelings. Sad to have to quit hockey, it’s been such a big part of my life. At the same time, when I sum it all up, I’m so grateful for my career, he says.

– In general, it feels good. It is the only right decision for me and my family.

Is it the concussion that stops you?

– Yes, unfortunately, that blow was prolonged and I still had some problems. Even if everyday life is better than it was six months ago. It was very difficult for me and my family. We had a baby six months before the accident and it was hard for my fiancée, she had to carry the huge burden. I couldn’t help as much as I wanted to.

Going to bet on golf

The 34-year-old thanks the clubs he has represented during his career. Special thanks go to AIK and Björklöven.

– I am so grateful to represent AIK, which is the club in my heart. but also purclofen. In those clubs I reached the level that I can reach.

Now another daily life awaits. Instead of a hockey rink, it will be a golf course. During his youth, Dellert says, he combined hockey with golf, before finally choosing to invest wholeheartedly in the former. And with a handicap of plus 1.8, the chances are good.

Golf has always been a passion of mine and it will be interesting to see how far I can go. I see that because I’m not afraid of failure, I still want to be competitive. That’s why I’m looking forward to it, concludes Dellert.
