Toronto’s Ilya Samsonov refused to honor the Russian colleague

New York. Goalie Serge Bobrovsky stole the win for the Florida Panthers in Toronto last night.

But he didn’t get any respect from his teammate on the other side of the ring.

When Maple Leafs goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov was asked about his compatriot’s amazing effort after the final whistle, he answered very bluntly:

– I do not care!

North American fans have had several impressive goalkeeping efforts in the opening weeks of the Stanley Cup, but the question is whether Sergej Bobrovsky’s third-period performance in tonight’s second meeting between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers at Scotiabank Arena will take home the prize.

The Leafs put on no-nonsense pressure while hunting for a 3-2 receipt not least by the totally obsessed William Nylander who created chance after chance. But the 34-year-old veteran couldn’t get any more pucks. He ended up stopping 35 shots – sealing the win 3-2.

A goaltender needs to win a game for his team in every series and he did tonight, says Panthers coach Paul Morris.

Toronto guard Ilya Samsonov also watched the show – but he didn’t want to give his compatriot any credit.

When asked after the final whistle about Bobrovsky’s brilliance, he snorted.

– I don’t care (approximately “I don’t care about it”, but harsher).

Why?

– It doesn’t make sense to me. He does his job and I do mine.

The men meet again for a third game in South Florida on Monday night.

Serge Bobrovsky played great tonight.
