Färjestad is recruiting Liam Öhgren from Djurgården

Färjestad won the battle of giant talent.

The SHL announces on its website that it is recruiting striker Liam Ogren, 19, from Djurgården.

After Djurgården lost to Modo in the Allsvenskan hockey final, Liam O’Gren was the gossip man. He visited several SHL clubs and eventually the 19-year-old’s choice fell on Färjestad.

“I feel like Färjestad believes in me a lot and has very good experience in player development and feels very good with (Thomas) Mettel as coach and Wallen (Rijkaard, sports director), they have been with me for a long time and have worked themselves into the NHL. This is where I want to go To him at the end, so it’s really good that they have that experience too.”

Climbed into the playoffs

Öhgren, who was drafted by Minnesota last year and signed to an NHL club, spent last season in Djurgården. In 36 games in Svenskan hockey, he accounted for 20 points. In the playoffs, he went one step further offensively with 13 points (8+5) in 17 games.

“Liam seems like a very determined and down-to-earth man who we look forward to working with and hopefully continue to develop towards his goal of one day playing in the NHL, and on his path to his personal goal also helping us achieve success. We have followed Liam’s progress through the season, and after meeting him in person here in Karlstad, The picture only became clearer that this was something to be desired,” says Färjestad’s sports director Rikard Wallen.

Sportbladet previously reported that another great talent from Djurgården, goalkeeper Carl Lindbom, is about to play at Färjestad.
