Montreal’s Sean Farrell wrote the test – on a day off during the Hockey World Cup

TAMMERFORS. During the World Cup of Hockey, American Sean Farrell, 21, mixes interest with fun.

Last Saturday, the Harvard student completed an economics exam – yesterday he was the top scorer.

– He said that some members of the team made fun of me a little.

In 2020, American forward Sean Farrell was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round and recently signed a contract with the club.

But the 21-year-old from Massachusetts has a slightly different background than many other elite athletes.

In parallel with ice hockey, he studies economics at the prestigious Harvard University, where he plays college hockey and is successful.

Fun day

Last season he finished fourth in the entire points league, and success on the ice earned him a spot on the US World Cup team based in Tampere.

But just because he’s in the tournament, he can’t let go of the plug entirely.

Between the opening match against Finland on Friday and Hungary on Sunday, he sat on a day off and wrote a three-hour exam in economics.

After the United States defeated Germany on Monday, Farrell, one of the scorers, talked about life as a student playing hockey.

– Yes, this was my last exam before the end of the semester at Harvard this year, so I had to complete it while I was here at WC. He says it’s good to have the game over and be able to focus on hockey for the rest of the tournament.

Did you have someone supervising you?

– John Vanbiesbrouck (President of Hockey Operations in the US and former NHL legendary goaltender) watched me the whole time, printed it out and brought it back to school, he did a good job.

He took one for the team?

– Yeah, something was just sitting with me the whole time, so I’m so thankful he did it for me.

What did the team members say?

– Not much. They were calm while I took the exam and everything went well. Some of the team members were a little funny, but I can handle it, Sean Farrell says.
