Mark Stone scored a hat-trick with a broken handle in the Stanley Cup Finals

Mark Stone broke his wrist in the fifth and decisive game of the Stanley Cup Final.

However, the star forward managed to score a hat-trick as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers.

– I had to take a few things in the first break, says the 31-year-old Canadian on the Pat MacAfee Show podcast.

Mark Stone became the first player to score a hat-trick in a Stanley Cup Final since Peter “Foppa” Forsberg did it for the Colorado Avalanche in 1996.

It was Mark Stone who opened the scoring in the first period when he scored 1-0 in a numerical disadvantage.

Now Mark Stone also reveals that he broke his hand in the opening spell and had to be treated in the first break.

– I took an unfortunate blow to my left wrist and it was fractured. Then I had to make sure I would be there to lift the trophy. You have to try, you never know when you’ll have a chance to win again, says Mark Stone.

The dent can be lifted by hand

The broken hand did not prevent him from scoring goals in the second and third periods.

The Vegas Golden Knights won 9-3 in Nevada and they were able to celebrate in front of the home crowd.

– I made sure that there weren’t too many emotions during the celebration. For me, there was nothing important to talk about. Matthew Tkachuk playing Game 4 for the Florida Panthers with a broken sternum is among the craziest things I’ve heard. Mark Stone says: We’re doing everything we can to win.

A tribute to Wild Bill

On the podcast, the captain also takes the opportunity to honor William Carlson for celebrating on The Strip.

The Swede made a long, attention-grabbing speech from the podium, as they tried to interrupt him several times to stop.

– They asked about who wanted to give a speech, but no one wanted to. Then he just said: “I’m giving a speech.” Then he took the mic and I don’t know where he was going, it was amazing and legendary. After that, he had to take it easy. Now I’ve seen him with a Stanley Cup at home in Sweden when he danced with his mom on Abba’s Dancing Queen. Mark Stone says he makes sure to have fun and enjoy himself.

Also during the celebration in Las Vegas, William Carlson began singing along and featuring piano on Dancing Queen.

Mark Stone was one of the all-time leading players with 24 points (eleven goals and 13 assists) in 22 playoff games.

Although he is not affiliated with the ‘Original Misfits’ with five players including William Karlsson, Mark Stone has been with them since season two in 2018/2019.
