Here’s today’s good news for Leksand fans.

Coach Bjorn Hellqvist is back in action after brain surgery.

“I feel like they’ve found a perfect field for the current in my brain now,” says Bjorn Hellqvist before Monday’s training.

Court coach Bjorn Hellqvist suffered from Parkinson’s disease for large portions of his adult life.

From time to time, he has to adjust various settings in a shunt in his brain that allow him to live as normal a life as possible. At the end of July he had an operation in Skåne. After that, he was on sick leave and did not have the opportunity to be with Leksandslaget because he had to be close to the specialists at Lund Hospital.

But now sick leave is over and he got in the car this weekend and drove from Ängelholm to Leksand – excited to start the season.

– I’m fine now and the operation I’ve had means making new settings and changes in the current field in my mind. After the surgery I felt tired and had brain fog. It just felt as if you were having a real open ice game in body and mind.

“Departure and New”

– I must pay tribute to our health care, it is very strong and qualified. I feel like they have found a perfect field for the current in my brain and I hope this feeling lasts for a long time. However, I will be humble, live in the present, and enjoy each day. It’s so much fun to be back, Lexand’s trainer says.

Leksand did not have the perfect start to pre-season. Two losses so far against Färjestad and Frölunda.

He’s early in the season and has small margins now in pre-season. What you can easily say so far is that we are very hard on the puck and we need to be even tougher on the pressure game. We will practice that now.

Lexand is still seriously injured and out, and Max Verono, Martin Carlsson, Justin Kloss and Matt Kaito are not currently training with the team.
