Frölunda’s women’s team aims to reach the top in the SDHL

Frolunda’s women’s team has yet to lose since the process began a year ago.

Now he enters the team as an upstart SDHL newcomer.

We feel we have a good investment here, says sporting director Kim Martin-Hasson.

At the SHL’s and SDHL’s inaugural meeting, goaltender legend Kim Martin-Hasson was in attendance. She is looking forward to next season, which begins in just over two weeks at home against the Brinas.

– It feels exciting. “We’re a great mix of young personalities and players,” she says.

“A good investment in Frölunda”

The Frolunda women’s team started its formation in the fall of 2022 and since then has crushed all opponents. The team played last season without losing any match. The SDHL’s historic premiere is now just around the corner.

The top four is what we’re betting on, and in a playoff, anything can happen. But we feel we have a good investment here in Frolunda, so I don’t think the target is too specific, says Martin Hasson.

National team star Hannah Olsson, 24, who is performing her second season in a Frölunda jersey, was also present at the opening meeting.

How do you think of the season?

We’re newcomers, so of course we go in with an incredible amount of humility. There are many on the team who have not played in the SDHL before. But we are a good team and we want to win games.

Hanna Olsson along with Maja Nylén Persson of Brynäs IF has been voted the best player in the SDHL by the media and the league’s coaches.

How do you behave?

It’s easy to stand here before the season and talk about it. We’re going to restart it, and it’s probably going to be up and down for a lot of people. It’s so cliche, but it’s about winning games as a team.

Contest champions

Anna Keliben, 29, and her team, Luleå, go into the season with five consecutive gold medals in SM. The team saved the gold medal with a final victory over Brenas last spring.

How do you see the competition?

– I think it’s useful, and I think there are a lot of teams that will go up there and be challenged. She says, “I’m looking forward to it.”

Are there particular teams you’re thinking of?

– I think Brennas will be there and challenge, and maybe Modo too. Then it was Frölunda who enabled us to see what they intended to do.

The Swedish Women’s Hockey League (SDHL) starts for the first time on Sunday 24 September.
