Two Swedish players were selected when the fledgling PWHL team had its first draft.

Örnsköldsvik’s Emma Söderberg made history as Sweden’s first female player when she was selected 58th overall.

– I’m very optimistic, says the 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Emma Soderbergh was selected by Boston and Lena Ljungblum from Montreal.

The 21-year-old center from Skövde who belongs to Modo also made history as Toronto’s youngest player drafted.

The six clubs previously had to select three players and now also have 15 selections each in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

Lena Ljungblum has been selected as the 90th and final player by the club in Quebec’s legendary hockey city.

Boston, which selected Emma Soderbergh, is expected to be one of the best teams in the league.

Emma Soderberg played college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the past five seasons and was named Goalie of the Year at Canada’s World Cup tournament in April.

Minnesota received the first pick and selected homegrown player Taylor Hayes, a 23-year-old right-handed forward who was named the nation’s top college player last season.

Among the SDHL Players of the Year, in addition to Lina Ljungblom, Czech defensemen Dominika Laskova in Luleå were also drafted by Montreal and Aneta Tejralova in Modo by Ottawa.

An opportunity to make money

Previously, there were two professional leagues in North America, the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) and the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF).

Over the summer, the PHF was purchased by an ownership group led by billionaire and Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter, and the two organizations merged.

The PWHL will offer its players a minimum salary of just over 380,000 SEK per season.

At least six players on each team must have a contract worth just over 850,000 SEK and the average salary for players on each team will be just over 615,000 SEK per season.

The league will begin over 24 rounds in January at the beginning of next year.

The six clubs that became the original women’s six were Boston, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Ottawa and Toronto.
