The teary-eyed Percy Nelson was praised

Long-time Malmö president Percy Nelson was celebrated in Malmö Square.

Then he had to watch Malmo lose dramatically to Modo 3-4.

The fashion hero was great Erik Walle-Walterholm with a beautiful goal in extra time.

Percy Nelson took over as Chairman of Malmö in 1984 and remained in this position for 24 years. During his time at the club, he recruited players such as goalkeeper legend Pekka Lindmark and Malmö won two SM golds in 1992 and 1994.

For his contribution to Skåneklubben, he was honored with a ceremony and a flag bearing his name and face was raised on the ceiling.

Among others on the ice in connection with the ceremony were Lindmark and former team captain and coach Mats Loseth.

– It feels so good, says Nelson on the ice.

I got hit by Lindmark

Among other things, he got the old stick of goalkeeper Pekka Lindmark that he had when he defeated Djurgården in the 1992 SM final.

– Very cool, really worth it, says Pekka Lindmark.

Once the match started, Percy Nelson witnessed real drama.

Modo led 2-0 after the first half after Modo’s Daniel Brickley scored a killer goal when he elbowed the ball. New signing Danny O’Regan then followed up with a penalty to make it 2-0 – in his first match in a Modo shirt.

– I had a slow start and had to work a lot. I have to keep getting used to it, there’s a lot of skating out there. But Niederbach (Theodor) found me with a good pass and I got it,” he says.

But Malmö will have to catch up. Anton Wahlberg pulled one back with an assist from Timo Kievehalm and in the third half Wahlberg came back through Kievehalm’s play to equalise.

Dramatic ending

And with less than five minutes to go, they also turned it around when Kim Rossdale scored to make it 3-2. However, this was not the winning goal as Riley Woods sent home the equalizer and took the match to extra time.

There, Erik Walle Walterholm made it 4-3 and sealed the win for Modou with a dream goal. He came full speed into the attacking zone, feinted past Johan Olofsson and curled a backhand into the net.

“I know he looked a bit tired and I tried to drag him between the clubbing and the roasting, and then it was just a matter of getting him to the target,” he says.
