Färjestad lead the SHL in style.
Now the club has also achieved success in Europe – and is ready for the Chinese Super League play-offs.
Linus Johansson decided in extra time away to Elves 4-3.
The Färjestad captain worked his way along the edge, broke down the field and bounced the ball beyond goalkeeper Jakob Malik.
4-3 after 4.15 minutes of overtime not only secured the win – but also a spot in the CHL playoff.
The club led 2-1 in Tampere but lost and lost 2-3 with 8.05 points remaining in the game in Finland.
Lukas Forssell then stepped forward and scored an equalizer in the chaos in front of Ilvi’s goal cage.
Johansson then took over the show.
Farestad ends the regular season at home to Munich on October 17.
SHL teammate Skellefteå changed the chains in an away encounter with Slovakia’s Kosice – and it was a success.
The club won 2-1.
Skellefteå actually took the lead after 5.36 minutes through Peter Granberg, and decided just over half the game later when Pär Lindholm scored the winner.
The team, which sits in fifth place in the SHL, got off to a great start to the CHL season with a big win but then fell into a downward trend.
With full points against Kosice, Skellefteå has now won two in a row and a total of three out of five matches.
Next up is Innsbruck, in the last game of the regular season.
The CHL’s number of teams for this season was reduced by eight teams, from 32 to 24, and the divisional division was eliminated. Each team plays six matches, three at home and three away, with the top 16 teams qualifying for the playoffs.
