A big surprise in the English Premier League – Liverpool beat Chelsea

The newcomer was responsible for a major shockwave at the WSL premiere.

The match only had time to start before Chelsea scored the first goal in the second minute.

However, newly promoted Liverpool defeated Chelsea 2-1 after receiving a double penalty late.

The Women’s Super League kicked off over the weekend with a fitting boost of much-anticipated EC gold in England this summer.

Chelsea, with Sweden’s Magdalena Eriksson and Zisera Mosovic in the starting line-up, and Jonah Retting-Canried on the bench, suffered a setback at the premiere.

Fran Kirby broke the scoring after just two minutes, Chelsea’s second goal in the match, to make the score 1-0.

Failure to evict results in penalty

When Norwegian Guru Reitan was brought down in the penalty area after a failed exit from Liverpool defender Gili Flaherty, the referee did not hesitate.

Kirby was given the confidence with a penalty and easily scored to make it 1-0, the only goal of the match.

But Liverpool turned the game around.

Double Penalties – The Swede has no chance

In the 67th minute, American striker Katie Stengel tied 1-1.

And hit a cross on the arm of defender Millie Bright and Stingel the penalty kick into the right corner of the Swedish goalkeeper Mosovich.

The 30-year-old also set a turning point. Liverpool were awarded a penalty again after Canadian Kadisha Buchanan tried to win the ball into the penalty area, achieving the final score 2-1.

In Chelsea’s next match, they will face big-hit Manchester City on September 25 with Swede Philippa Engeldahl in the squad.
