Adam Mascherin is ready for Skellefteå AIK – back to SHL

Profile resurfaces after career in jeopardy

Fan favorite and profile fan Adam Maskrin returns to Skellefteå at SHL.

It will be an opportunity to avenge the 24-year-old striker after missing last season due to injury issues.

– I couldn’t even imagine playing anywhere other than Skellefteå, says the Canadian.

Adam Mascherin made a big impression early last season with his free and lively play.

There were seven goals in the first 15 games before a shoulder injury put an end to playing.

After surgery and rehabilitation, he signed a three-year contract with Italian Asiago, but the two parties agreed to break the contract before any match could take place.

– Summer was a stormy period for me. I had surgery and started rehab without knowing if I would ever be able to play hockey again, so I felt a three-year contract was a good safe and secure option. But everything happens for a reason, we agreed to go separate ways and I asked my agent to contact sporting director Eric Forsell as soon as possible. I couldn’t even imagine playing anywhere other than Skellefteå, says Adam Mascherin.

“good as new”

During the fall, he was at his home in Canada, where, among other things, he was on the ice with his old little team.

For the first three months, I was a little nervous about never being able to play hockey again. They had to take a piece of my femur and attach it to my shoulder, it’s one of the best ways to prevent it from happening again. Since then, I’ve worked hard to increase strength and stability in the shoulder. I saw a Toronto Maple Leafs shoulder specialist and he said it looked great and wasn’t the least bit worried I’d never be able to play again, so that was a huge relief to hear. Now I adjust the final detail to show strength and make sure it’s level with my other shoulder. When I reach that standard, I’m as good as new, says Adam Masherin.

“I’ve never had this much fun”

Third-placed Skellefteå started the SHL season strong, although the front side was a bit weak and it was no secret that the sports department sought additional reinforcements.

– I’m really excited to be back. So is my family. They and their fiancée, after visiting and living in Skelleftea, said that they loved her. I incredibly enjoyed there last time. I have never enjoyed playing hockey. The fans are so amazing to play in front of them, so I just want to get out on the ice and hear their cheers from the stands again. It’s absolutely gorgeous, says Adam Masherin.

On Thursday he arrived in Skellefteå for a medical check-up so that everything seemed fine.

The plan is to rewrite the contract for the rest of this season.

Closest after the national team’s hiatus, Skellefteå plays away to Timrå on Saturday, November.
