Chairman Gianni Infantino announced on Monday that 41-year-old Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima will be given a historic role in FIFA.
Lima, a former Victoria’s Secret model, will become the organization’s first global supporting ambassador and will serve primarily as a model “Develop, promote and participate in many global initiatives.” Ahead of the Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand this summer.

Criticism of the choice of Adriana Lima
However, FIFA’s initiative has been criticized.
Moya Dodd is a lawyer, former Australian national team player and former member of the FIFA Executive Committee. She believes the decision is tone deaf.
“A quick background check shows that this model is known for eating and drinking on diets and for making abortion a crime. I wonder if a FIFA ambassador would deliver messages about body image, well-being and healthy eating,” she wrote in a LinkedIn post.

Earlier this year, there was information that this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup will include the Saudi tourism agency “Visit Saudi” as a sponsor along with such giants as Coca-Cola and Visa.
