The investigation into the death of hockey player Adam Johnson will take some time.

The announcement was made by police in South Yorkshire, who also issued an appeal to the public:

Adam Johnson, who played for Nottingham, died after being hit in the neck by Sheffield’s skater Matt Pittgrave.

South Yorkshire Police have since conducted an ongoing investigation and issued a statement on Tuesday.

Police say they spoke to witnesses, consulted with experts and reviewed video footage to understand the circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death.

“As with all unexpected and sudden deaths, standard police procedure is to fully investigate the circumstances,” police wrote in a statement reported by The Athletic.
