AIK beat Modo – Wennerholm: Stockholm hockey game comes back to life

Djurgården impressed Hofitt, but AIK’s win over Modu was the biggest shocker of the evening.

A crazy swing match that AIK won 6-5 after taking three straight hits.

Stockholm hockey is back to life.

The completely rebuilt AIK was impressed at the premiere and new acquisitions and returns were delivered immediately.

Yes, when they woke up in the second period.

After the first match, I was ready to count Modu’s first three points in the opening match.

Johan Södergran then had to break in easily from the edge and click 1-0, which then became 2-0 when Oscar Peterson shot in a free position in the middle of the castle.

Then I thought Modu had closed the store.

But then it was as if some magical fairies had waved a magic wand over the reconstructed AIK that no one really knew where they were before the series started.

each group? forget that

Zion Nybeck was suspended with a 2-1 lead by superbly new Adam Rookwood with a recent past at Modo.

Oscar Magnuson scored 2-2 with Modu goalkeeper Christs Godlavskis, after Alex Wiemenborn stole the ball in the attacking area and played forward.

Then 3-2 when new defender Albert Likassen pounced on strong play and hit the stopping Oscar Nord, who speared the ball with his elbow.

Or some other high-status body part, when the puck was on its way at least half a meter above the crossbar.

Then there are only 42 seconds left to play in the middle of the period.

But there will be another goal, when Axel Wiemenborn found Daniel Mozito Bagnda’s shot in front of goal, who pushed the club forward and made it 4-2 just 11 seconds before the end of the period.

Lots of luck, chance and a near-no defensive match from Modo, but it still looked fairly fair in a period when AIK won with shots 13-4.

each group?

forget that.

It came back just as fast in the last period and when Sebastian Olsson of Modu tied 4-4 I was ready to delete everything I had written so far.

But then Oscar Magnuson stood on the counter-attack and hit Godlawski’s left cross to make it 5-4, before Modu’s new takeover, Rihards Marenis finished the goal celebration by making it 5-5 with 1.49 left.

Then the penalty shootout where AIK was one hundred percent.

I don’t know the last time I saw a team do all three hits, but it doesn’t happen often.

It could be a nightmare for Modo

Richard Genji had to score at the end on a penalty shoot-out and at the same time goalkeeper Kristers Godlavskis was injured and had to go out.

It may be a nightmare for Modu, as successful goalkeeper Tex Williamson last year sustained long-term injuries, but the first word was just a cramp.

But a heavy evening for Modo, while AIK got a dream start in the shadow of Djurgorden.

Now no one knows how hot the Stockholm teams will be when it’s time for the first derby of the season at the Globe, or Avicii Arena as it’s called nowadays.

It’s first in Round 14 on November 2.

Nobody seriously believed AIK would be able to challenge Djurgården, but at least there was a ray of hope for all seasoned fans.

It’s as if sporting director Christopher Malm and coach Anton Blomqvist have created AIK 2.0 for this season.

This wasn’t just an away game, but it was the toughest on paper.

Modu was the best home team in hockey at Olsvenskan last season and only lost one game full time and it was a narrow loss (2-3) against the winners of the HV71 series.

It also shows that AIK was the team that gave the highest odds ever at the Allsvenskan premiere at Svenska Spel – 4.10.

But of course it’s impossible to draw any conclusions after one run but it looked awfully good at times

There were more shocks than AIK’s victory on penalties almost overnight in the opening round of Allsvenskan.

Östersund won his first match in Alsvenskan 3-2 after a penalty shootout at home against Södertälje.

Classic SSK that was tilted in the top half after last year’s negative shock qualifier.

Many were tempted by Björklöven as the series winner, but there was a direct loss at home against Beck Karlskoga, who won 2-1 after deciding on Kaley Gilbert in the mud.

No one should be surprised.
