A safe 3-0 victory over Varberg – so AIK is ready for the Swedish Cup play-offs.
—incredibly cute, says John Guidetti at SeaMore.
Now the Stockholm derby could be in the quarter-finals.
AIK, Västerås or Varberg?
It was the Stockholm team that finished last in the Swedish Cup qualification.
Offensively balanced AIK sets the pace instantly. John Guidetti caught a ball and dribbled it onto an overlapping pass from Eric Otiño. Kenyan Bilal Hussein was found leaning back and the midfielder did no wrong as he pushed 1-0 ahead of AIK. By then the match had only lasted two minutes.
– We got exactly the start we wanted, Hussein tells C. Moore.
“You can punish us.”
Gnaget dominated at first, but gradually allowed Varberg to feel more and more of the ball. Throughout the match, however, Hallanders struggled desperately to create anything of value.
– It gets really bad later. Hussein warned before the second half, we must not be too careless, he can punish us.
You don’t have to worry about the midfielder. Because after an hour of play it was 2-0. Omar Farag got the ball inside the penalty area, sent it in front of the goal, and there was Jetmir Heleti, who was the first on the spot. The attacking centre-back easily put the ball behind Fredrik Anderson in the Varberg goal.
Derby could be in the quarter-finals
3–0?
He came in with only ten left to play. John Guidetti received a pass from Vincent Till and mercilessly sent the third into the net.
It’s good that we score a goal in the game and it’s nice that we’re making more progress. We’re grateful for the support we get from the fans here even though it’s less than five and it feels like a minus twelve. It’s powerful to see so much in place, Guidetti says in C. More afterwards.
The quarter-final draw was held at 21.15 in Seamore. The derby can be won directly in the playoffs. AIK will face one of the ranked teams: Djurgården, Hammarby, Kalmar FF or BK Häcken.
Guidetti is not bragging that Derby 08 will be delicious.
– It could be funny. We’ll see what happens, we’ll take what we’ve got and we’ll go after it, he says.
