SM Gold itself doesn’t automatically generate much income, but the European Games could do so over the next year, says club director Marcus Godin.
European games enrich
There, a team game in the Champions League is the financial jackpot (lex Malmö FF) but where matches in the Europa League or even the more achievable conference league (lex Djurgården) can also bring in rich profits.
And SM gold per se does not secure much larger stakes from SEF TV and sponsorship agreements.
There, the clubs receive an annual quota which is calculated based on the respective association’s performance in Allsvenskan and Superettan over the past five-year period.
– Last year’s twelfth place led us there. Godin says first place gives us somewhere, around fifth and sixth.
What exactly corresponds to this place in terms of money is not clear, but based on previous years, it is probably about 25 million SEK. But there will therefore not be much difference compared to previous years.
Million reward for players
The gold SM reward for players will be greater.
According to Sportbladet information, the top spot in Allsvenskan gives Häcken’s 23-man squad five million kronor, broken down based on how much they played during the season.
This means an average of SEK 217,000 per player paid by the club, but is likely to be a bit more for those who have played more and a little less for those who have used the bench more often.
– I don’t comment on amounts. Marcus Godin says there is a collective reward for the team that plays. Together with the players board, we will find a way to do a good deal.
