Alexander Holtz hit the opening match for the Devils

New York. Alexander Holtz had a dream start into his first real season in the NHL.

He scored directly in the opening game for New Jersey against Philadelphia.

– I worked hard to get here, so I was really happy to get this disc, says the 20-year-old from Stockholm.

The former animal farmer moved to North America already prior to last season, but basically had to spend his rookie year in the farm league.

However, he’s been so successful there that Devils Club management assumes he’s ready to make an impression among the big guys this winter as well.

He showed up in tonight’s season opener against the Flyers in Philadelphia. In a strong game eight minutes into the match, he received a puck from fellow countryman Jesper Pratt on the left wing and fired a shot that slid under Carter Hart’s arm.

– I worked hard to get here, so I was really happy to get this disc, says Alexander when he meets the media afterwards.

– If it is good to do so early? I don’t know, I just want to contribute to every game and help build a winning team. It was just a shame that we couldn’t win this match.

Because no, demons couldn’t. After the opening, the undefeated Philadelphia team took over and eventually triumphed 5-2 in front of their slightly stunned fans.

The start of the second half was bad, we should have been more focused and keep using our speed. We’ll do it right next time, says Holtz.

Jesper Pratt also provided a assist in the visitors’ second goal.
