The Best Players of 2022 awards were handed out at a gala on Tuesday night and it was the Swedish champions who won the major tournaments.
BK Häcken so far
Häcken has received awards in the categories of Defender of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, Striker of the Year, Coach of the Year and Player of the Year.
Mikel Rigaard was surprised by winning the title of Midfielder of the Year in competition with his teammate Samuel Gustafson and Hammarby player Naher Besara.
– I didn’t think so. Samuel was as good as anyone else and Bessara scored a lot too. “I never thought about winning, but it’s an unbelievable feeling,” says Rigaard.
The Dane doesn’t think he was better than Samuel Gustafson.
– We won SM gold together, scored more points and goals, but it meant a lot to us as a team, says Rygaard.
How will you celebrate?
– I think we should drink some champagne, perhaps. Now I get a beer from Evin Hovland (which was the last of the year, editor’s note) so it’s perfect. There was a lot of talk now, so now we have to drink.
