André Klippenberg Grindheim talks about nightmare weeks in Budapest

Intestinal rupture, surgical appendicitis, coronary heart disease and pneumonia.

Norway national team swimmer Andre Kleppenberg Grindheim, 22, is now back in Norway after two weeks of nightmare in Budapest.

– The last thing I remember before the operation was that the doctor said we either have to open you up now, or you only have a few hours left, he told NRK.

The unpleasant adventure began on the penultimate day of the tournament. Grindheim suddenly had “severe stomach pains” and realized that everything was not going well.

His stomach swelled so moderately that the 22-year-old thought he was in a blessed state.

– It turned out that the intestines were completely dead.

Grindheim experienced a bowel movement, which initially caused inflammation in the stomach and then spread to the appendix. An operation is needed urgently.

– The last thing I remember before the operation was that the doctor said we either have to open you up now, or you only have a few hours left, says Grindheim.

Tribute to Mom: ‘You Didn’t Survive Without Her’

The operation went according to plan, but the suffering did not end there. Complications did not occur, but during the stay the 22-year-old suffered from both corona and severe pneumonia that left him bedridden in Budapest for about two weeks.

Returning to the Norwegian lands, Grindheim gives an idea of gratitude to his mother, who on her own initiative took a job as a nurse in the hospital where she was accepted.

– He says if it weren’t for her, I don’t think I would have survived.
