Andrea Jaeger, 57, was a successful tennis player.
She is now opening up about a dark time during her career, having experienced at least 30 sexual assaults.
“I had to worry about this crap every week,” Yeager told The Independent.
American Andrea Jaeger had a short but successful tennis career in the early 1980s. She was ranked number two in the world for a while, and also managed to pick ten singles titles. In addition to this, she has reached the finals of Grand Slam twice.
When he was 19 years old, Jaeger gave up his career due to a serious shoulder injury. But now the 57-year-old is opening up about a dark time during his career.
Geiger told The Independent that she was sexually harassed by an official, among other things.
I have had at least 30 incidents with a particular employee. She says all the attempts were made in the locker room very, very early in my career.
He didn’t dare tell his father
She believes that one of the senior players witnessed one of the accidents, but the person did not intervene. Jaeger wanted to tell his father what had happened, but she was worried about his reaction.
When he was 16 years old, Jaeger was invited to a player’s party. A WTA employee asked Jaeger if she wanted a drink, and the tennis player asked for one without alcohol. Once I tasted her drink, I thought it tasted weird.
She says that soon she began to feel affected, and after the party the same person who served the drink pushed her home.
– When we got to my apartment, she followed me to the door and tried to kiss me. I was so nauseous that I crawled down the stairs inside and tried not to vomit until my dad saw me, says Jaeger.
“Every time I tried to stand I was threatened”
The incident prompted Jaeger to act.
– I said it should stop. Every week I had to worry about this nonsense. But they told me, “If you say one word about this, we’ll make sure your sister’s scholarship to Stanford University is withdrawn.” Every time I tried to defend myself, I was under threat of injuring someone else, she says.
In 2006, Jaeger became a nun at the Episcopal Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. She is said to have left the church in 2009.
