Short hurdles always have a lot of drama. But Belgium’s Anna Zagrey has taken everything to a new level in the women’s 100m hurdles practice.
In the morning I fell victim to a favorite cause – literally. American Nia Ali drove into the heat but hit the ninth hurdle and then fell in the tenth grade. There she broke her hurdles and Anna Zagre’s, so when the Belgian came in she had to bend a bit but also jump over an inverted hurdle.
The completion time, 13.25, was not enough to advance. But the Belgian Federation protested and the jury decided to allow Zagrey to run again – alone on the field.
They put up three laps with hurdles but there was only one runner against the clock. 13.12 was required to advance when the shot was gone.

At nine hurdles it went well, just as it had in the morning, but at the last hurdle Zaghari fell again and rolled sadly over the finish line.
– I desperately wanted to finish, but forgot my back leg at the last hurdle, it was a huge mistake etc, she says in the mixed area where she arrived after dressing her scratches.
When asked how it feels to have the scene for yourself, it was hard to sort out the feelings.
– What happened was not fun at all, but it was acceptable to run by myself. They were kind to me. It’s a pity that I fell. I have very mixed feelings. She says it was just crazy.

As if that weren’t enough, the Belgian, with a personal best of 12.71, is dropping into the final World Cup hurdle for the second time in a row. In Doha, the same thing happened in the semi-finals and the exhausted Zaghari had been lying on his stomach at the finish line until then.
