Sportbladet revealed last Tuesday that Elias Pettersson was on his way to Vasteras.
It has now been confirmed that the big talent is on loan from Örebro until further notice.
– For some time, in consultation with the Vancouver Canucks, we tried to find a solution for him to play in a big environment, says sporting director Niklas Eriksson.
Elias Pettersson returns to Vasteras where he lived and played until the age of sixteen.
At the end of last season and in pre-season, the 19-year-old defender made a big impression in Örebro, but when the SHL started, he struggled to get a place.
New coach Johan Hedberg is playing strongly with six players, with Elias Pettersson being the seventh full-back in four of the matches and being out of the team in two of the matches.
Last spring, Elias Pettersson signed a three-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks to be loaned to Örebro.
You can go between clubs
Now he will instead get playing time at parent club Västerås in Hockeyallsvenskan.
– We looked for a double comeback through the strengths of the defence. Now that Oliver Bohm is injured and Kale Luponen is suspended, it’s great to have him come in, says sporting director Niklas Johansson.
In Västerås, Elias Pettersson reunites, among others, with Adam Hofbauer, with whom he played junior and senior hockey together in Örebro.
Since Elias Pettersson is a young player, there is an opportunity to move between clubs.
The plan is for him to play full time in Västerås, but he could return to Örebro during the season.
Important playing time for the JVM
With his physical game and skating, Elias Pettersson is expected to earn a place in the junior crowns at the JVM in Gothenburg.
Already on Monday, he was there to train with Vesteras.
Örebro started the SHL by winning five out of six matches and collecting points in all matches.
Västerås won two out of three matches in Hockeyallsvenskan, but also picked up points against Brynäs.
