Early this spring, 47-year-old Andreas Bergwal announced that his active career was over.
Now Sportbladet can reveal Bandy’s new Legend function:
The former goalkeeper giant becomes the coach of the Allsvenskan Tellus.
The news is expected to be official soon.
Tellus left Bandy’s Elite Series last winter. Now, the Stockholm little club is falling back in the Allsvenskan – and they’re doing it with icon as their new coach.
Andreas Bergwal, known as the best goalkeeper of all time and one of the most deserving names in the Swedish league, is expected to take over the main responsibility for the team after Mikael Björk.
Sportbladet was reached through the information on Monday afternoon. A moment later, Tellus hinted on social media that they would release “big news” soon.
“But first we want to let you think a little. In this picture you will find most of what you need to know things,” the club writes of the illustration showing a mountain, a pair of hands and a wall (or ‘wall’ in English).
“It will have a good effect”
Andreas Bergwal announced in March that his stellar goalkeeping career was over. His last active club was AIK, where he also previously played a season as a coach. Over the years, the long-running Västerås SK file has won, among other things, seven gold medals at the World Cup and five gold medals at the Sweden Championships.
The profile of Tellus Martin Krigh, who put the skis on the shelf after relegating to Allsvenskan and is now part of the club’s sports group, refuses to confirm the information. The former midfielder is referring to the message on social media at the moment.
– We agree with a new coach for next year and there is a slight hint put in place. We are very happy with this recruitment. We think it would have a good effect, says Krig.
We evaluated last year and saw what worked well and what needs improvement. Part of what attracted this new coach is the fresh start we’re doing now. We believe this will be a good boost for the association and for its long-term building.
