The concepts of bandy and globe are confusing.
This is the view of the bandy district of Västergötland – which now wants to investigate whether the word “bandy” can be omitted from the globe of the ball.
– Of course, we have no plans to change the name, says the president of the Swedish Globe Association, Marit Bergendahl.
Bandi and earth ball are two popular sports in Sweden. But the names sound similar and can cause confusion for non-inmates, according to Bande Västergötland county.
Therefore, the region now wants to review the possibility of protecting the “Bandy” brand. A proposal was sent to the Swedish Bandy Association prior to the annual meeting in June. In the proposal, the district emphasizes that “in many ways we need to strengthen our brand and make it more visible.”
“We suggest starting a dialogue with the Floorball Association about the exclusivity of the Bandy name that belongs to snow sports,” the movement states.
This bandy should have priority in a possible discussion about the name justifying the area with the fact that Bandy is called Bandy in Sweden and internationally. Globe is the name of a globe in the world.
Fantastic response
But the proposal seems to stop at only one. On the part of the Swedish Football Association, hearing is poor.
“We have no other comment than that the globe in our eyes is a completely different word and a completely different sport,” says Chairman Marit Bergendahl.
– We do not think that it is a problem of confusion, and of course we have no intention of changing the names. It works great with different sports called bandy and floorball.
Is it possible to make any other explanation than that they want you to change your name?
– No, I can’t read it any other way than they mean that they don’t think a globe should be called a globe. So I explain it without asking.
Is it the Bundy who should change his name in this case?
– Not from us anyway. We don’t have any desires for that.
Sportbladet has applied for Västergötland Region Chairman Christian Nilsson.
The county also made three more proposals before the annual meeting of the Swedish Pande Association on June 11. These apply to proposals by a committee working for a place in the Olympics, as well as rule changes regarding reserve goalkeepers and complete expulsion, respectively.
