BP wants to move up the derby against Djurgården, AIK and Hammarby

Brommapojkarna plans to play their home games against other Stockholm teams in Allsvenskan in 2023 at Tele2 Stadium.

Many dialogues are going on to solve the problem.

– We’d like a lot of people to see these great matches, says club manager Peter Cliff.

There was a time when the Stockholm derby was played at AK’s Rasunda as well when Djurgården and Hammarby played at home.

Due to several different reasons, Brommapojkarna can now move their home derbies next season.

– Nothing is clear, but we have a dialogue with the police who brought this to our attention, it is a problem when we have an arena that can accommodate 3,500 people for these matches. There will be a crowd of ten or 20,000 people who want to see them, says BP club director Peter Cliffe.

– The third last game in Allsvenskan is a potential golden game for Djurgården and if we’re only allowed to bring in 3,500 in Grimsta, you understand the problem.

Peter Kleve believes that Grimsta IP is too small to arrange matches against big clubs from Stockholm. In addition, all the youth of the club want to have the opportunity to watch the matches.

– There are positive and negative aspects. Obviously it was fun to play matches at home, but we’d like a lot of people to see these great matches too, he says.

What is the size of the financial rise in moving matches?

– If there were people, it would be quite a challenge to take care of the arrangements, but there would obviously be more financial opportunities for Brommapojkarna as well. It would be an addition to the coffers if a lot of people came. Everyone wants to raise their average crowd and these are important matches for us.

Peter Cliff says BP will pay roughly £120,000 in ground rent to Stockholm City in connection with their Allsvenskan home matches and thus barely make a profit from their arrangements. The rent in the Tele2 yard will be “only” about SEK 30,000 higher.

– It’s a big problem for Brommapojkarna, he says.

– We need to consider the costs we are currently taking to survive the seasons. Other clubs can spend their money on players, teams, etc. and we spend it on rents in Stockholm City. It doesn’t look right.

Also in 2013, Brommapojkarna moved its home derbies against Djurgården and AIK to the Tele2 stadium.
